- The 800K Disk Drive is a highly reliable component of Macintosh products and
- continues to exceed Apple's reliability goals. We continually strive to
- improve the reliability of Apple products. We have discovered that moving the
- drive head to Track 79 during ejection can enhance the 800K Disk Drive's
- reliability. Therefore, Apple has developed the Apple 800K Eject INIT Version
- 1.0 that positions the drive head at Track 79 when disks eject.
-
- Macintosh users who are using Version 4.1 or greater of the Macintosh System
- file may take advantage of this enhancement. Updating can occur one of two
- ways:
-
- 1) The Apple 800K Eject INIT Version 1.0 is available on AppleLink:
-
- * Open the Software Updates icon on AppleLink
- * Locate the Apple 800K Eject INIT folder
- * Download the INIT file
- * Place the INIT file in the System Folder
- * Restart the system
-
- 2) Since Apple has incorporated the Apple 800K Eject INIT Version 1.0 into
- Macintosh System Software 6.0.4, users who update their system software
- to 6.0.4 will receive the enhancement. Future releases of the Macintosh
- System Software will also incorporate this INIT as a patch to the System
- file.
